BIOGRAPHY
Winner of the 2024 GAMIQ for Electronic Album/EP for Freak of Nature, the 2021 Félix Award for Indigenous Artist of the Year, and the 2019 SOCAN Foundation Indigenous Songwriter of the Year Award, Anachnid is a Montreal-based Oji-Cree multidisciplinary artist. Her spirit animal is the spider who has eight legs, like how she embodies many complex personalities both on stage and in life: venomous spirit, young woman in love, caring grandmother...
Her debut album Dreamweaver, released in February 2020, was nominated on the Polaris long list for pop-alternative album, the Summer Solstice Indigenous Music Awards for electronic hip-hop album and artist of the year, as well as for ADISQ English album of the year. Her music is a sensual hybrid of electro-pop, trap, indie, soul and hip hop, with delicate and complex sound textures evocative of her ancestral cultures. Nearly two years after the release of her debut album, she released two new singles: Live Alone and Love Alone, which reveal a new side of the artist, an isolated, unfiltered Anachnid, creating an alternative pop anthem, with a touch of grunge, and raw poetry with a taste of dark humor. In November 2023, Anachnid released her three track EP Freak of Nature – an instrumental exploration in collaboration with Musique Nomade and Popop two years in the making.
Released in fall 2024, Anachnid created the instrumental soundtrack for a recorded oral story for the project Tiohtià:ke: Cartographie de récits autochtones. Anachnid is also the host of her own show, Sur les traces d’Anachnid, with Radio-Canada where she meets with various Indigenous artists to connect and discover their practices. The most recent season was released in June 2025. On stage, she delivers an immersive experience with a quiet strength that communicates her sensitivity, bringing us into her intimate and symbolic universe – ever informed by her diverse practice and artistic experiences.
