STOPOVERS

Musique Nomade's musical stopovers are central to the organization's mission and mark the beginning of a complete cycle of artistic support. These community-based creative workshops allow Indigenous artists to benefit from professional coaching and a music production service directly in their communities.

Our mobile team, comprised of a music producer, a videographer, and a project manager, travels with a full recording studio to deliver an immersive and collaborative experience in diverse communities. Each participating artist can record a piece of music and create a professional video, whether it's a presentation video, a music video, or a live session.

The stopovers offer a privileged space for artistic creation and exploration, while promoting the influence of recorded works through their distribution on various platforms. In addition to featuring on a collective album entitled "On the Road," the artists benefit from their own profile on the Nikamowin platform, a showcase that allows them to share their talent with a wider audience.

In the fall of 2023, Musique Nomade partnered with the Minwashin organization to produce Weckatc Nikamowin , an album of Anicinabe songs. The stopover team traveled to Anicinabe territory (Anicinabe aki) to record with Harry Wylde , Roger Wylde , Norman Kistabish , Louisa Papatie , Alice Mowatt , Émily Mowatt , Charlie Penosway , Verna Polson , Beautiful Sky Group (Gloria Polson, Felicia Polson, Kendra Mapachee, Kellycia Mapachee, Taliah Mapachee, Nayalee Mapachee) and Spirit Wind Singers of the North (Marilyn Chevrier-Wills, John Wills, Grace Wabie, Carole Cloutier and Mélissa Gill).

Weckatc Nikamowin 's recording focuses on the digital preservation of Anicinabek songs. The goal is to record songs inherited from elders and from several Anicinabek communities; to allow Anicinabek artists and elders to preserve the selected songs and participate in the transmission of Anicinabek culture to future generations. While not necessarily considered "traditional" songs, these songs carry significant historical and cultural value.
