Winner of the Félix Revelation of the Year and Indigenous Artist of the Year at ADISQ 2023, Révélation Radio-Canada 2022-2023, Kanen is a singer-songwriter from the Innu community of Uashat mak Mani-Utenam on the North Shore.

 

After releasing her self-titled debut EP in 2019, where she unveiled her sensitive indie-folk universe, in spring 2023 Kanen unveils her debut album Mitshuap, where she presents herself fully embodied with a rawer indie-rock musicality. Her songs blend French and Innu-aimun, a language she is learning to master as part of a process of reclaiming her identity. Love, identity, anxiety, territory, time... The themes explored on her album plunge us into a more intimate universe, against a backdrop of distortion and catchy melodies.

Kanen is a rising star on Quebec's contemporary music scene, making numerous media appearances, including interviews and performances on Belle et Bum, Le Grand Solstice, Rallumer les étoiles, Bonsoir Bonsoir, On va se le dire, and many more. 

 

Over the course of her career, Kanen has performed at numerous festivals across Quebec: Les Francos de Montréal, Festival de la chanson de Petite-Vallée, La Noce, Fierté Montréal, FME, Innu Nikamu, FIMU, Le Festifs! and was also invited to perform at the Grand spectacle de la Fête nationale in Quebec City. She has been selected to present showcases at several conventions in Quebec and Ontario: RIDEAU, ROSEQ, M pour Montréal, Coup de Coeur Francophone and Global Toronto. On stage, Kanen presents herself fully embodied in all her complexity, with her punk energy marked by great poetry that stirs strong emotions.
