BIOGRAPHY
Innu from Mashteuiatsh, on the shores of Lake Pekuakami, Soleil Launière lives and works in Tiohtià:ke (Montreal). A transdisciplinary artist combining singing, movement and theatre with performance art, she intertwines the presence of the two-spirit body and experimental audiovisuals, drawing inspiration from the cosmogony and sacred spirit of the animals of the Innu world. In the fall of 2023, Soleil Launière released her first album, Taueu, exploring the themes of territory, femininity, gender identity and matriarchy. Taueu is a soul-roots album imbued with pop tones and magnetic arrangements that draw us into a mysterious and soothing universe.
Accompanied by Joséphine Bacon, who taught her Innu-Aimun, her songs blend French, English, Innu-Aimun, and a language invented by Soleil in a process of reclaiming cultural identity and language. On stage, with the seasoned musicians of CHANCES (Chloé Lacasse, Geneviève Toupin, Vincent Carré) and Simon Walls, she combines vocal harmonies and strong percussion with performance art. This intriguing new soul-roots project transports the audience into a profound and captivating experience.
In 2024, Soleil was nominated at the ADISQ gala in the categories Indigenous Artist of the Year and Album of the Year - Indigenous Language, as well as at the GAMIQ for Indie Rock Album, and at the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame for the Discovery Award for Francophone Song. In June 2025, Soleil headlined Nikamotan MTL - Niaran with Taueu, where she invited seven musicians to join her on stage throughout the evening. In November 2025, she gave a mesmerizing performance of Era Ew at the 47th ADISQ Gala, where she was also nominated for Indigenous Artist of the Year and Show of the Year in Indigenous, Bilingual and Other Languages.
